Over the last five years, Magic Torch have developed and delivered a range of heritage projects which have used comics and sequential art to encourage literacy and explore history and folklore. We have worked with community groups and schools to help bring stories to life for new audiences. I write the comics, the much cooler artists are Andy Lee and Mhairi M Robertson...

Our World War One graphic novel Achi Baba, explored the Gallipoli campaign. You can read it online for free, thanks to the support of Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland. Achi Baba won the Community Archive and Heritage Group national award for Innovation in 2016.

We believe that comics are a unique and engaging way to explore and celebrate the cultural heritage and history of an area, and we want to work with your community too...

It doesn't always have to be heritage or history. We can also work with Primary and Secondary classes delivering group work linked to class projects or other creative learning outcomes. Our comic creation sessions are structured to ensure the whole class can contribute to telling the story. You can read and download some examples on the Magic Torch Comics website. Or read them via our ISSUU page.

We can also deliver sessions for teachers on using comics to develop creative writing and developing a graphic novel library for class. If you are interested, drop us a line...

Each session or larger project is tailored to your needs and interests, and so costs vary accordingly. We can work with you on a half day session in a class or community group, or work with your for months to create a 64 page hardcover graphic novel - whatever best fits your project. Magic Torch have more than fifteen years experience of working within community and cultural projects and so may also be able to advise on potential funding options for your project if appropriate.

You can download all the information above as a pdf.

You can purchase some of our previous publications via our online shop, and help support our ongoing projects.

There's also lots of other comics you can download for FREE, featuring superheroes, space discos, historical battles, folk ballads and even Slenderman...

In 2017, we will be publishing I Thought I Was Undone, a graphic novel exploring the life and legends of legendary Scottish pirate William Kidd.
